While we plan to switch out this flooring in the kitchen and side entrance hallway, we’re a year or two away from being ready for the project. We won’t want to replace the flooring until we give the kitchen a major overhaul. And to redesign the kitchen, we need to save all of our nickels and dimes. Meanwhile, I’m thinking about covering the existing flooring to give it a little refresh.
Before we even stepped foot in the Dream House for the first time, Mr. Blandings and I were already discussing the merits of the woodwork. Initially he was pushing for stripping the woodwork and I, having some experience with such a monumental task, was quite happy to leave it painted white. As we delved into the house and its history a little more, and as we saw photos of a lovingly restored American System Built home in Milwaukee, I started to see M’s point.
You’ve probably heard the idiom, “You haven’t got a leg to stand on,” right? Well, clearly whoever coined that phrase didn’t know about The Floyd Leg. (Which is undoubtedly because it wasn’t invented yet!) This new DIY table leg design from Detroit duo Kyle Hoff and Alex O’Dell is so simple it’s brilliant!
As I’ve been switching out lighting in the Dream House I’ve loved seeing what a difference a small change can make. As I posted previously, I’ve been replacing the existing light fixtures with porcelain lampholders and Edison bulbs. I started upstairs in the bedrooms and hallway and now I’m moving downstairs. Despite the fact that the rest of the dining room looks terrible (ugh, those sheers curtains!), I still want to post about saying goodbye to Mr. Big Light.
Maybe it’s just me but have you ever noticed how an ugly extension cord snaking along the baseboard can ruin a whole room? Come on, you know you’ve noticed it too. And if you haven’t, you might now that I brought it up. (You’re welcome.)
I’m thinking about switching to something more like these cloth covered cords in the Dream House. Available in range of colors and styles, these cords are so cute I’ll probably want to find a way to display rather than hide them!
